About the office
The Office of Education and Instructional Services (OEIS) focuses on the administrative needs of students, faculty, and staff that are related to instruction in the PharmD degree program. It:
- administers didactic and experiential courses.
- facilitates teaching and learning with technology expertise.
- collects and manages data for systematic assessment and strategic decision-making.
Part of the PharmD Education Unit in the Dean’s Office, it is managed by the director, who reports to the co-vice deans of PharmD education, who report to the dean.
Responsibilities include
Curriculum administration
- Centralizing and disseminating policies, procedures, and standards related to education as approved by the faculty and School leadership.
- Documenting and tracking curriculum information.
- Serving as the first point of contact for education and educational technology affiliations with other programs and campus services.
- Managing School of Pharmacy education facilities.
- Coordinating teaching assistants for PharmD courses in conjunction with department faculty members and course directors.
Didactic course support
- Assisting course directors in planning and course logistics including scheduling facilities, revision of course documents, communications, and technology.
- Creating student learning groups for conferences, labs, workshops, objective structured clinical examinations, and other learning activities.
- Creating and maintaining course Collaborative Learning Environment and Ilios pages.
- Assisting with examinations and course assessments including proctoring, preparation of electronic and computer-based exams/quizzes, recording grades, scheduling exam viewings, distributing graded exams, preparing summaries of exam performance.
Experiential education
- Providing administrative support and coordination for Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) curricula.
- Serving as a resource for paid and without salary preceptors.
- Administering site and rotation assignments for the IPPE and APPE programs.
- Supporting preceptor development programs and initiatives.
Education technology
- Administering and managing core education technologies for Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree program including Ilios, Collaborative Learning Environment, E*Value, and ExamSoft.
- Advising and training faculty members on core technologies that support course delivery.
- Providing support to faculty members to implement new technologies and learning approaches in the classroom.
- Serving as a resource for new technologies.
- Coordinating classroom technology to facilitate instruction.
Assessment
- Coordinating implementation and administration of course and teaching evaluations for didactic and experiential courses.
- Supporting evaluation research regarding student performance and curricular outcomes to guide strategic decision-making about the curriculum and PharmD degree program.
Continuing pharmacy education
- Managing School of Pharmacy continuing education and preceptor development programs.
- Serving as the liaison to the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) for continuing pharmacy education programs; establishing systems to ensure activities and programs are ACPE compliant.
- Advising the faculty and School on procedures related to continuing pharmacy education; developing new programs and processes in conjunction with the faculty.
