Strategic Plan

Our current strategic plan is intended to be a living, dynamic document—with School leadership regularly reviewing progress towards each goal. Our tactics as well as our goals and sub-goals are expected to adapt and adjust over the course of the plan’s lifespan.

Themes and goals

Process and progress

This plan was developed in 2022 and 2023 by School leadership under the direction of Dean Kathy Giacomini, PhD, BSPharm. Feedback was gathered from faculty, staff, and external stakeholders through workgroups, meetings, a faculty retreat, and a town hall. Each theme lists leadership contacts charged with monitoring progress and gathering feedback. A retreat was held on Sep. 16, 2024 to discuss progress updates and next steps, and each theme and goal page above has been updated.

Why plan?

Strategic planning guides our momentum and decision-making while leaving room for us to seize new opportunities and pursue big, innovative ideas.

We develop a faculty-driven plan every five years. Each plan encompasses the detailed goals of the School’s three departments, organized research unit, and Dean’s Office. School plans support the priorities of the UCSF chancellor and the continued success of the 10-campus University of California system.
