UCSF welcomes Chancellor Desmond-Hellmann

Susan Desmond-Hellmann, MD, MPH, pioneering cancer researcher and biotechnology industry executive who most recently served as president of product development for the biotechnology company, Genentech, Inc., was named chancellor of UCSF on May 7, 2009 by the University of California Board of Regents and on the recommendation of UC President Mark G. Yudof, LLB. The appointment takes effect August 3, 2009. “Dr. Desmond-Hellmann brings exceptional science and health care expertise to the post, as well as the business savvy we need now to take advantage of the sea changes around us,” comments UCSF School of Pharmacy Dean Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, PharmD. “She is a new kind of chancellor for a new time—for a changing university.”
