Tejal Desai named chair of the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences

Tejal Desai, PhD, has been named the new chair of the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences (BTS), a joint department of the UCSF Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine. Her appointment is effective August 1, 2014.

Napolitano selects Hawgood as next UCSF Chancellor

University of California President Janet Napolitano has announced that her choice for the 10th chancellor of UC San Francisco is Sam Hawgood, MBBS, the UCSF School of Medicine dean who has served as interim UCSF chancellor since April 1. The UC Board of Regents will vote on Napolitano’s selection and the terms of the appointment on July 17.

Retreat kicks off major revision of School curriculum

The UCSF School of Pharmacy, a leader in pharmacy education worldwide, jump-started a transformation of its Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum at a Schoolwide meeting on June 18, 2014 at the Presidio of San Francisco.

The entire UCSF enterprise—including the School of Pharmacy—is gearing up for AIDS Walk San Francisco. This year’s walk will take place on Sunday, July 20 in Golden Gate Park.

In my role as operations analyst in the Office of Finance and Administration, I work on various projects and initiatives for the Dean’s Office:

Coordinate information technology support and information system asset management, coordinate space, provide operational support to Dean’s programs, curriculum transformation, managing the vice dean and associate dean of administration and finance's calendar, working on education-related initiatives, act as human resources liaison and safety officer, and work with the Office of Planning and Communications for key communications.

As the senior finance analyst and finance manager, I oversee all of the department's financial resources and advise the department chair and MSO on important financial decisions. I ensure that all projects are budgeted effectively, efficiently, and in compliance with campus policies and procedures. I work collaboratively with financial leadership in the Dean's Office and other departments within the School of Pharmacy. I work directly with research support analysts (RSAs) within Clinical Pharmacy and research support coordinators (RSCs) in central services to manage pre- and post-award operations of grants and contracts. I also serve as the department champion to handle change management through the setup and implementation of a new chart of accounts and the MyReports and UPlan financial systems.

As associate dean, I manage financial and administrative resources for the Dean’s Office. I provide guidance on UCSF, UC systemwide, state, and federal policies that regulate and have an impact on the School of Pharmacy. I also represent the School on campus committees dealing with finance, research, information technology, and space.

As the chief financial officer I am responsible for all aspects of the School of Pharmacy's finance and administrative resources, including research administration, decision support and data analytic systems, reporting, and strategic planning. In collaboration with the associate dean for finance and administration, I direct the School's operational budget. I also manage the development and implementation of strategic and programmatic plans to support the School's initiatives and infrastructure. As a senior member of the School's management team, I collaborate with the associate deans, department chairs, and finance managers in the management of financial and administrative issues.

 

As the project manager for the School's integrated curriculum, I work closely with the vice dean of education and Curriculum Team members to develop, implement, and maintain a fully integrated, 3 year, theme based curriculum.

As a member of the Office of Education and Instructional Services (OEIS), I coordinate the logistics for the first-year didactic courses in the PharmD curriculum, including exams, OSCEs, educational technology, and active learning activities. I work closely with the faculty to ensure all administrative aspects of the course run smoothly and am a resource on education technology-related questions for student pharmacists and faculty.
