The QBI seminar series is presenting John Walter, a visual artist based in London with a longstanding interest in HIV, infectious diseases, and a commitment to expanding the public understanding of virology through projects such as Alien Sex Club (2015) and CAPSID (2018). He works across a diverse range of media that includes drawing, painting, video, VR, installation, and performance. His distinctive aesthetic seduces audiences into engaging with complex subjects through an exuberant use of color, humor, and hospitality. Walter studied at The Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art at The University of Oxford, The Slade School of Fine Art, and completed a PhD in the Faculty of Architecture and The Built Environment at The University of Westminster. His work has been collected by The Walker Art Gallery Liverpool and The Arts Council Collection, and has been supported by Wellcome and Arts Council England.

John will give an overview of his artistic practice, discussing key projects, emphasizing his collaborations with scientists and his interest in viruses of the mind, setting the stage for his year as artist in residence at Krogan Lab and QBI.
