School’s PharmD program rises to second place in national rankings
By Grant Burningham / Tue Mar 17, 2020
The UCSF School of Pharmacy’s Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program was ranked second place nationally in the 2020 U.S. News & World Report survey of best graduate and professional schools.
The new ranking comes amid the School’s transformation of its PharmD curriculum, which resulted in sweeping changes beginning with PharmD entering Class of 2018. The new curriculum challenges students to think scientifically and with the patient top of mind – a philosophy that stands out among pharmacy schools nationwide.
“The latest PharmD program rankings are testimony to the School’s focus on grounding our learners with an ever-present, inquisitive scientific way of thinking,” said B. Joseph Guglielmo, PharmD, dean of the School of Pharmacy. “This approach will ensure the safe, effective, and cost-effective use of medicines and personalized therapeutics for all patients in ways we can’t yet imagine today.”
In 2016, when the rankings were last published, the School’s PharmD program was tied for third place nationally.
“Coming off of our very successful curriculum transformation, we couldn’t be happier about this recognition for our PharmD program,” said the School of Pharmacy Vice Dean Sharon L. Youmans, PharmD, MPH. “We are enormously proud of our faculty, staff, and our world-class students who made this ranking possible.”
