Call for members: UCSF Committee on Disability Inclusion

The Office of Diversity and Outreach (ODO) Committee on Disability Inclusion is currently recruiting new membership for the 2023-24 year. The Committee on Disability Inclusion supports the mission of the Office of Diversity and Outreach by providing advisory support to Dr. Renee Navarro, Vice Chancellor of Diversity and Outreach and Chief Diversity Officer. Committee members actively participate in workgroups and participate in event planning to further enhance the climate at UCSF for constituents with disabilities. Please review the membership requirements below and apply by June 20, 2023. Meetings will be conducted via Zoom.

Mission

The mission and charge of the UCSF Committee on Disability Inclusion is to examine the issues affecting individuals with disabilities at UCSF, including:

  • Evaluating policies, programs and procedures.
  • Serving as a coordinating and advisory body to increase accessibility and inclusion for this community.

Goals

ODO Committee goals include:

  • Strategic alignment with the Chancellor’s UCSF Anti-Racism Initiative.
  • Advancement of ODO’s goals by assisting with specific initiatives serving their main constituents.
  • Advice and consultation for ODO on issues impacting their communities.
  • Analysis of existing policies, procedures and programs that affect their communities.
  • Development of programs and communications that build community at UCSF and raise awareness about their specific communities.
  • Service as a resource group; informing and sharing information through their channels.

Membership requirements

  • Members serve in a volunteer capacity.
  • Commit to serving a two-year term for faculty or staff, or a one-year term for learners, residents, or postdocs.
  • Members are available to attend all one-hour meetings and will have support from their supervisor to engage in additional estimated 3-5 hours per month.
  • Commit at least 3-5 hours per month for the following:
    • Attend an hour-long monthly committee meeting.
    • Participation in any sub-committee work.
    • Participate in committee event planning and execution.
  • Members have experience in any capacity supporting access and inclusion for people with disabilities.
  • The committee is particularly interested in recruitment of members who share intersections of various identities (Disability, racial/ethnic identity, gender, LGBTQIA+ status and others).
  • The committee is particularly interested in recruitment of faculty members.
  • The committee is interested in membership representing a broad cross-section of the UCSF enterprise.
  • Participate in committee event planning and execution.

Complete the New Member Application form and include a short essay (200 words) of why you wish to join to the committee. Please be sure to also include any experience and skills that could contribute to the committee and community of people with disabilities at UCSF.
