Student speaker Ana Cruz shares her path to pharmacy and activism

Ana Cruz knew, when she was very young, exactly what she wanted to do when she grew up, she told the UCSF doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) Class of 2021 at their White Coat ceremony.

She wanted the same job as the woman in white.

Now, Cruz is a PharmD student in the Class of 2018, and was the student speaker at the event, held Friday, October 13, in Cole Hall on the Parnassus campus.

For the UCSF doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) Class of 2021, October 13 was the day they officially entered the profession. In a ceremony on the Parnassus campus, each student donned a white coat, a symbol of health care professionals for more than 100 years.

Class of 2020 student pharmacists don their white coats

The 126 students of the UCSF School of Pharmacy’s class of 2020 donned their white coats for the first time on October 14, 2016, in an afternoon ceremony that symbolized their entry into the profession.

The first-year student pharmacists were joined at Cole Hall on the Parnassus campus by a packed house of family and friends, as well as by distinguished School partners, alumni, and faculty,who served as “coaters” on stage.

Class of 2018 student pharmacists put on their white coats

The students of the UCSF School of Pharmacy’s incoming class—whose countries of origin range from Rwanda to Iran and who hold degrees in subjects from biology to biochemistry and from psychology to accounting—put on their white coats for the first time on October 10, 2014, in an afternoon ceremony signaling their entry into the profession.
