The QBI & Gladstone Institute Infectious Disease and Human Health Seminar Series presents Britt Glaunsinger, Professor and Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, as well as a Fellow of the American Society for Microbiology.

Dr. Glaunsinger holds the Class of 1963 Chair for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, was named a UC Berkeley Miller Professor and a Chancellor Professor, and is a graduate of the UC Berkeley Faculty Leadership Academy. She has received numerous awards, including the Howard Temin Career Development Award, the Burroughs Wellcome Foundation Investigators in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease Award, the W.M. Keck Foundation Distinguished Young Scholars Award and the UC Berkeley Prytanean Faculty Award. She is passionate about science communication and developed a semester-long graduate course as well as holds regular workshops on this topic. Her dedication to culturally inclusive mentorship has been recognized through receipt of a campus-wide UC Berkeley Graduate Division Distinguished Faculty Mentor Award.

Research in the Glaunsinger lab is centered on virus-host interactions that influence gene expression, primarily in the context of herpesvirus infection. This encompasses viral repurposing and altering of cellular gene regulation machinery to promote virus replication, as well as cellular responses to viral invasion. Her lab has a particular focus on mechanisms by which viral proteins control host and viral RNA synthesis, translation, and mRNA turnover through interactions with mammalian gene expression machinery.
