Murphy and Bermingham win ASHP Clinical Skills Competition
The national winners of the 2010 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Clinical Skills Competition are Jennifer Murphy and Rachelle Bermingham, student pharmacists from the UCSF School of Pharmacy.
The ASHP competition involves both a written and oral evaluation of a specific patient case. It is designed to encourage future hospital and health system pharmacists to work as teams to analyze the medication needs and care of patients and, ultimately, to help patients make the best use of their medications.
Murphy and Bermingham evaluated the case of a patient who was prescribed an antibiotic to treat a urinary tract infection and subsequently developed a skin rash. The competition and award announcement took place during the 2010 ASHP Mid-year Clinical Meeting held December 5-9, 2010, in Anaheim, California.
