Adam Abate, PhD, a faculty member in the UCSF Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine, Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences, is a prime trial candidate for QB3’s Startup in a Box.

The program by the UCSF-based California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences aims to help researchers convert ideas and technologies into companies by connecting them with banking and legal support toward incorporating, filing patents, assembling a management team and filing for a grant from the federal Small Business Innovation Research Program.

Abate, a biophysicist hired by UCSF in April, wants his new company to apply the science of microfluidics to creating low-cost cancer diagnostics.
