Step 1: Minimum Eligibility Requirements

In order to have your application materials accepted for review, you must be able to first verify that you meet certain minimum eligibility requirements. Applicants who do not meet these requirements, or who are unable to provide the verification necessary, will not be considered for admission and their applications will be administratively canceled.

  1. Grade Point Average Requirement
Eligible applicants must have a minimum, cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.80 as calculated by PharmCAS. For information about GPA ranges of admitted students, see About the Students and Applicants.
  2. Academic Prerequisites
All prerequisites must be satisfied with course work approved by the Office of Student & Curricular Affairs and must be completed prior to September 1, 2011.
    1. Verifying Your Prerequisite Course Work
It is your responsibility to verify if your course work is approved to meet our prerequisites. The process varies according to the type of institution where the course work was completed:
      1. A Public California College or University
(University of California, California State University, California Community College)
      2. A Private California College or University
      3. An Out-of-State College or University (private or public)
        1. Request a Review To Create An Approved Course List
      4. A Foreign College or University
      5. Advanced Placement Tests
At this time, only the Advanced Placement Test, offered through The College Board and Educational Testing Services (ETS), is accepted towards prerequisites.
  3. Computer Literacy
You must have basic skills using a computer.
  4. Intern License Requirement
You must be able to secure and maintain a valid intern pharmacist license with the California Board of Pharmacy.
  5. Criminal Background Check
You may undergo a criminal background check before entering Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences.

There are no exceptions to these requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions About Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  1. Should I still apply if my grade point average is just above the minimum of 2.80?
Admission is competitive and our evaluation is based on all aspects of the application in addition to your grade point average. This includes your science grades, curriculum, recommendations, essays, and interview results. Competition also varies from year to year depending upon the size and strength of the applicant pool. You should consider all of these factors and should not base your decision to apply solely on your GPA.
  2. Is a bachelor's degree required for admission?
No, only the pre-pharmacy requirements are required. However a degree may make an applicant more competitive for admission, and in recent years a large majority of our successful applicants have held bachelor's degrees.
  3. Do I have to take the PCAT or GRE?
No. We do not require any standardized test.
  4. Do I have to take the TOEFL examination?
No. We do not require any standardized test.
