Application Process

Our application process consists of 4 steps:

Although our application process is exacting, it is not an impossible task, and we happily offer assistance if you require it. However, each year some applicants are disqualified because they do not pay close attention to the application instructions or because they fail to meet deadlines. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

About UCSF and PharmCAS deadlines

As a result of the impact of the severe weather on the East Coast, PharmCAS has extended the November 1 deadline to November 15. The deadline for the UCSF Supplemental application has not changed; the deadline remains November 1.

If your ability to complete the supplemental application by November 1 has been impacted as a result of the storm and you can provide evidence to that effect (e.g. you live in an area affected by the weather), please contact our admissions staff regarding an extension at: admissions@pharmacy.ucsf.edu

Step 1: Minimum eligibility requirements

  1. Grade point average requirement
  2. Academic prerequisites
    1. Verifying your prerequisite course work
      1. A public California college or university (University of California, California State University, California Community College)
      2. A private California college or university
      3. An out-of-state college or university (private or public)
        1. Request a review to create an approved course list
      4. A foreign college or university
      5. Step 1: Advanced Placement tests
  3. Computer literacy requirement
  4. Intern license requirement
  5. Criminal background check

Step 3: The interview process

An opportunity to demonstrate your communication skills.

Step 4: After applying

Your Admission status:

  1. Accepted
    If you've been accepted.
  2. Waiting list (Alternates)
    If you're an alternate on the waiting list.
  3. Denied
    If your application was denied.

While waiting, prepare to meet our computer requirements.

Your administrative responsibilities

After submitting your application:

  1. Submit copies of your transcripts on schedule as described in Checklist: Transcripts
  2. Notify us of any:

    1. Change of address, telephone, or e-mail
    2. Change of course schedule
  3. If applicable:

    Withdraw your application
