Giacomini honored with Brodie Award in Drug Metabolism and Disposition

Kathy Giacomini, PhD, was awarded the 2020 Bernard B. Brodie Award in Drug Metabolism and Disposition from the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), in recognition of “outstanding original research contributions in drug metabolism and disposition, particularly those having a major impact on future research in the field.”

ASPET is a professional society of 5,000 researchers in the basic and clinical pharmacological sciences, drawn from academia, government, and industry. The Brodie Award is given once every two years to a researcher in the field of drug metabolism and disposition, a field that seeks to understand how drugs make their way through the body to their intended therapeutic targets.

Giacomini is a faculty member in the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences, a joint department of the UCSF Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine. She is also the co-director of the UCSF-Stanford Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation (UCSF-Stanford CERSI), a joint venture between UCSF, Stanford, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that works to improve the translation of academic discoveries into FDA-approved clinical therapies.
