Remembering Robert D. Gibson

A beloved educator and alumnus of the UCSF School of Pharmacy, Robert D. Gibson, PharmD ’58, died on July 19 at the age of 93. Gibson had an illustrious career over five decades at UCSF and was a strong national leader for diversity in the pharmacy profession.

Remembering C.C. Wang

Ching C. Wang, PhD, a beloved UCSF School of Pharmacy researcher and professor, known for bringing molecular biology and biochemistry to parasitology, and for his work on the antiparasitic medicine ivermectin, died last week at the age of 80. To his wide circle of colleagues and friends, he was known simply as “C.C.”

Remembering Edward Leong Way

Edward (Eddie) Leong Way, PhD, UCSF School of Pharmacy alumnus, UCSF faculty member, and dear friend, died peacefully at home in San Francisco on June 12, 2017, four weeks before his 101st birthday.

Eddie mentored generations of UCSF PhD students and taught scores of pharmacy students during his tenure as a professor in the UCSF School of Medicine, from 1949 to 1978. He was a member of the UCSF emeritus faculty since 1987.

The UCSF School of Pharmacy community mourns the passing of Peter Ambrose, PharmD ’80, an esteemed faculty member in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy.

Department mourns the passing of Professor Urquhart

John Urquhart, MD, passed away on March 19, 2016. Dr. Urquhart was an adjunct professor in the Department Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences at the UCSF School of Pharmacy. He was best known for pioneering the science of medication adherence and for development of innovative electronic technologies and metrics to assess patient compliance with self-medication during clinical trials.

Remembering Harry W. Hind - pharmacist, inventor, leader, benefactor

Harry W. Hind, a 1939 graduate of the UCSF School of Pharmacy who invented solutions that revolutionized contact lens use, as well as a topical patch to treat pain from shingles, died on April 12 at age 96.

In memory of Olga Beyn, UCSF doctor of pharmacy student

The UCSF School of Pharmacy, along with colleagues campuswide, mourn the death of 4th-year doctor of pharmacy student, Olga Beyn, who died Saturday, July 31, 2010, as the result of a water accident on the Kings River in Fresno, California. “Olga was an exceptionally bright and shining student.
