School of Pharmacy Web Standards

This section describes standards for School of Pharmacy websites. For each standard, we describe the standard, the rationale, and how to implement it.

These standards relate to either graphic or text elements that appear on every page as party of your template design.

Content Standards

These standards explain the necessary content and structure in various sections of your website.

Every site has an 'About the School' or 'About the Department' link in its primary navigation that includes a landing page with secondary links.

  6. 'People' section
Every site has a people link in its primary navigation that includes a landing page with secondary links.
  7. 'News & Annoucements' section
Every site will present news (and announcements) in its primary navigation with secondary links.

Why have standards?

The School wants its websites to be consistent, reliable, efficient, and coordinated. For example:

  1. When one website in the School differs significantly in some way from another website in the School, visitors can have jarring, unpleasant experiences.
  2. When websites in the School are not checked frequently for broken links, they begin to be unreliable and untrustworthy.
  3. When web pages could be managed in a more efficent manner than we are doing now, we should work to improve our efficiency.
  4. Messages such as news of someone receiving an award could appear on all the websites related to that person in a coordinated manner.

The goal is to improve the quality and consistency of our websites.

Participating websites

The working group is currently focusing on the following websites:

Other School sites will be asked to participate in the future.

Standards committee

The standards are set by the Web Communicators Working Group, which is currently composed of web owners and web workers from each of the School's 3 departments as well as the Dean's Office communications team.
