Full Compliance Templates
School of Pharmacy Templates
The School provides 2 different full-compliance template systems for use on all official School of Pharmacy sites.
The template framework is provided automatically; there are no files to download.
To use the templates, you follow a set of instructions we provide to enable you to use them.
The templates are files you download and install wherever you have your Web space.
To use the templates, you follow the same steps as you would for using templates in Macromedia Dreamweaver.
What do they provide?
Our Web templates automatically provide the following features:
- Banner: Since the banner template matches the banner style for the UCSF home page, it instantly communicates that your site is part of UCSF. It reinforces the University's current style of presentation. It also provides links that are consistent across the University when more Web sites use the banner.
- Breadcrumbs: Breadcrumbs show visitors their context in the Web site and let them jump directly to higher nodes in the structure. Ours are automatically generated, once you've done some initial configuring. Set 'em and forget 'em.
- Local Navigation: Local navigation, which appears in white text over a blueish purple background at the left side of the page, is used for links to pages at the same level of hierarchy or below. Like breadcrumbs, you set it up and it works automatically for all the pages you specify.
- Styles: When you use our stylesheets, page elements such as text fonts, sizes, colors, and behaviors automatically match our style guide.
Customization
You can customize:
- Colors, images, and text on your subsite's home page
- Section images for each section of your subsite
- Supporting page layouts: 1-column, 2-column, 3-column, or your own custom layout
Examples
The following subsites of the School of Pharmacy Web site use our Web templates. Each has a customized home page and supporting pages that match the look of the School's interior pages.
For more details and guidance in developing your subsite, see the style guide or contact our office.

How to choose
Choose which system you want to work with based on:
-
Your level of expertise.
To use Template System A, you must know Linux basics. (If you don't know them, see the training sidebar at Step 3: Review our minimum skill requirements.)
-
The level of quality you want for your site.
Template System A provides more quality, consistency, and features than Template System B.
-
The amount of time you can commit to Web development.
The less time you have, the more we recommend Template System A.
To review the differences between Template System A and Template System B, see Step 4: Make key decisions.
