Travel to Professional Meetings
The Office of Student & Curricular Affairs has some funds (but not as much as everyone would like) that can be used to reimburse student pharmacists who travel to a professional meeting. There is a limit of 2 reimbursable meetings a year and reimbursement requests must be submitted within 30 days of the conference/meeting. We do not reimburse for meetings in town or for 4th year students attending CSHP Seminar or the ASHP MidYear (except for the Julian Weiss Scholars). Our standard policy is to limit the dollar amount to that equal to the student member registration rate. In addition, if there is an early-bird student member rate, we use that as our standard.
We do this because we believe that attending these meetings helps you develop a broader sense of the profession of pharmacy. On a personal level, you learn about the issues confronting the profession, you meet practitioners who are leaders in all areas of practice and you get the chance to network with practitioners and student pharmacists from other schools.
To be eligible for reimbursement, you must attend all events specified by the student leaders. If you attend a meeting or conference other than the CSHP Seminar, ASHP Midyear, APhA National, ASP Regional, AMCP or Outlook, a written statement of your experience must accompany your reimbursement request. Please submit your statement on a separate sheet of paper and include your name.
We also have, for 4th year students only, four $250 Julian Weiss Scholarships to be used to attend the December MidYear Clinical meeting of the ASHP. If you wish to be considered for this award, you must submit a one-page essay stating how you expect to benefit from attending the MidYear meeting by November 1 to Curricular Affairs Assistant Lucia Piriano in the Office of Student & Curricular Affairs (S-960, or Box 0150 or by fax to 415/476-6805). In order to make the judging as fair as possible, your name must not be on the essay page but on a separate page. Lucia will assign each essay a number so that our judges will not know who has written the individual essays. Winners will be notified by the end of November. Each winner will receive their $250 after they return from the MidYear meeting and submit a write up of their experiences.
