APPE Background Checks

The School of Pharmacy will cover the cost of a background check if it is required for your advanced practice pharmacy experience (APPE).

Background checks will be conducted by Certiphi and communication regarding this process will take place through a secure web portal. Certiphi is the vendor used by many pharmacy and health professions schools and is the vendor used by PharmCAS for newly admitted pharmacy students.

The following background check parameters have been established to meet the requirements of the APPE sites that require this clearance:

  • Seven-year history
  • Address verification
  • Sex offender registry search
  • All names (current legal and other names)
  • Three-county criminal search
  • OIG/GSA search
  • Social security validation

Once your background check is complete, you will be notified that it is ready and you can log in to view and/or print a hard copy of the report. If the background investigation results in an incident, you will be notified and will be able to work with the Certiphi staff regarding the finding.

The School of Pharmacy will not have access to the full report, but only the result – either pass or review (which means an incident has been reported in the investigation). The result of the background check be will confirmed via a secure web portal and used only for the purpose of verifying eligibility for you take a rotation at an APPE site for which a background check is required.

Information about this process is provided to all students prior to beginning APPEs.
