Live Scan Fingerprinting

The California Board requires a separate fingerprint transmission for each application submitted to the Board. As a result, you will need to have new fingerprints taken for your pharmacist license.

What is it?

Live Scan fingerprinting services enable authorized agencies to scan your fingerprints then submit them digitally to the California Board of Pharmacy.

Choose a Live Scan location and get fingerprinted

Live Scan at UCSF

Live Scan Elsewhere

Live Scan fingerprinting is provided by the UCSF Police Department. As of March 5, 2008, the price is $130. For details, see How to obtain fingerprinting services.

For all other locations, see Applicant Live Scan Fingerprint Services Locations and Hours of Operation to select a fingerprinting location near you and schedule an appointment.

When you appear for your appointment, bring:

  1. The Request For Live Scan Service forms (Pages 17, 18, & 19 of the CPJE application).
  2. A valid driver's license, California identification card, or passport.

Note: The fees include a rolling fee, a DOJ processing fee, and an FBI clearance fee. Only the rolling fee is listed on the website.

Confirm complete and correct info

In 2008, a number of licensure applications were delayed due to problems with Live Scan. The Board recommends that at your fingerprinting you confirm that the Live Scan operator correctly enters your name, date of birth, and social security number.

If any of these are incorrect, you will need a new Live Scan fingerprinting and will need to pay a new Live Scan fee.

Some operators do not include this info, so be sure they submit complete information for you.

After Fingerprinting

The first Live Scan form remains with the Live Scan operator. The second form is submitted as part of your application -- be sure the operator signs it. You keep the third form for your records.
