Step 6: Install Microsoft Office updates
Installing Microsoft Office updates is a required step in ensuring computer security.
Does your installation of Microsoft Office have current security updates?

No or
Not Sure
|
Prepare to Update
-
Get your Office CD-ROM. Some updates require that you insert the same CD-ROM that was used when Microsoft Office was installed on your computer. If you can't find it, try asking the person or company from whom you bought your computer. If you don't have a legal copy of Microsoft Office, you need to purchase a legal copy. Visit The Technology Store which offers Microsoft Office to you at an educational discount.
-
Log in with administrator rights. To check whether your user account has these rights, visit Windows Vista: User Account Control or Windows XP: Create and customize user accounts. Mac OS X users, see "Working as an administrator" in Mac Help and see Accounts in the System section of System Preferences.
Perform the Update
Download and install the security updates:
-
Mac users: Visit Mac Downloads.
- Windows Vista users: In Start Search, enter Windows Update. If you are receiving updates for Windows only, select the nearby link to receive other updates.
-
Windows XP users: Visit Microsoft Update. (Requires Internet Explorer.) If you just completed Step 5: Install operating system updates, Microsoft Update will likely report that no further updates were found.
This process could take a long time.
