Should I Buy...?
If something is not listed as required, we offer no specific recommendations and suggest that you make purchase decisions based on your budget or your desire for particular features or convenience. For example:
Should I upgrade an old computer or buy a new computer?
It doesn't matter to us as long as you meet the requirements.
Should I buy a desktop, minitower, laptop, netbook, or all-in-one computer?
It doesn't matter to us as long as you meet the requirements. However, we strongly recommend laptops. A netbook or iPad may not be your primary or only computer. See Should I Buy a Laptop?
What processor speed should my new computer have?
It doesn't matter to us. In the past, processor speeds were accurate indicators of a computer's processing power, but today that is no longer the case.
How much hard disk space should my new computer have?
It doesn't matter to us. However, if you plan to store lots of photos or videos on your computer, you should accordingly purchase a larger hard drive to meet your needs.
Can I buy a laptop that doesn't have a DVD drive? (e.g., Apple MacBook Air)
Yes, as long as you have access to a DVD drive, whether that's in our computer labs or via Apple's Remote Disc drive-sharing technology. Or, simply be prepared to purchase an external DVD drive if the need arises.
