Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required. Microsoft Outlook is required for Windows users. Microsoft Entourage with Exchange support is required for Mac users.

Get Microsoft Office 2010 for Windows for free?
Windows users: If you purchased, installed, and activated a qualifying Microsoft Office 2007 product between March 5, 2010, and September 30, 2010, you are eligible to download Office 2010 at no additional cost. - Activate Office 2007 no later than September 30, 2010.
- Sign up for the notification email on the Microsoft website.

Windows users: If you need to purchase Office 2010 (e.g., so that you have a legal copy), we strongly recommend Microsoft's special offer for students. About Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac
Mac users: Microsoft is expected to release Office 2011 for Mac in late 2010. We do not require this version of Office. If you purchase Office 2011 soon after it is released, be aware that it might take several months following its release for the University to determine what compatibility problems might exist with it due to the wide number of computer systems on campus.
About the Starter, Home and Student, and Basic editions
These editions do not meet our requirements.
- Microsoft Office 2010 Starter edition does not include Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft PowerPoint, which are required for Windows users. Details: Office 2010 Edition Comparison.
- Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student edition for Windows does not include Microsoft Outlook, which is required for Windows users. Details: Office 2010 Edition Comparison.
- Microsoft Office 2008 Home and Student edition for Mac does not include Microsoft Server Exchange support, which is required for Mac users. Details: [Office 2008 for Mac Editions][link defunct].
- Microsoft Office 2007 Home Basic does not include PowerPoint, which is required. Details: History of Microsoft Office.
- Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student edition for Windows does not include Outlook 2007, which is required for Windows users. Details: History of Microsoft Office.
Service pack & critical updates required
Your computer should also have the most recent service pack and all critical updates for Office installed from Microsoft Update (Windows) or Check for software updates automatically (Mac).
Microsoft Office not provided
Unfortunately, we do not provide Microsoft Office for you, so you are responsible for purchasing it. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required. Microsoft Outlook is required for Windows users. Mac users are required to have Microsoft Entourage with Exchange support.

What if I have a Mac?
The curriculum does not require any software that is available only on Windows. There are some compatibility issues with exchanging Microsoft Office documents between Windows and Mac and among newer and older versions, but in essentially all cases these issues have workarounds or solutions.
Where do I buy computer stuff?
You may purchase computer hardware or software from any vendor.
Older versions of Microsoft Office
If you have a version of Microsoft Office older than our specifications, you must upgrade to meet the requirement.
