Requirements

All School of Pharmacy students entering in fall 2005 must meet the following computer requirements:

• Literacy - You must have basic skills using a computer.
• Hardware - You must own a computer that meets our specifications.
• Software - Your computer must have certain software:
  • Operating System
  • Microsoft Office
  • Additional Software
• Internet - You must have a method of connecting to the Internet from your primary place of residence.

Buying Options

1. Configure Your Own Dell Computer: Visit Dell Offer, then select the second "Click Here" link. You can choose from all of Dell's computers and options, configure a computer to your liking, then receive up to 12% off plus promotional items.
2. Computer Shopping Made Easy: We also provided our recommended computer configuration to ExactChoice, a simple, step-by-step process helps you decide which computer to buy. A wide variety of brands is covered -- not just Dell.
3. Make Your Own Purchase: You're not limited to the buying options presented above. It doesn't matter to us which computer vendor you choose, but your computer must meet our requirements by the first day of classes.

Need financial help?

If you need financial assistance to pay for a computer, UCSF Student Financial Services may be able to help. The funding source is an additional student loan, usually a Federal Stafford Loan. The loan will not be disbursed in a single check but will be divided equally by the number of quarters enrolled during the academic year.

To receive a loan to cover computer costs, you must:

1. Purchase the computer and/or related equipment on or after Monday, August 1, 2005.
2. Make the purchase(s) in your own name.
3. Charge the purchase(s) to a credit card, or if you cannot or prefer not to charge, obtain an itemized estimate, including taxes.
4. Complete the Computer Funding Request Form (PDF, 1 page, 50 KB, Requires Adobe Reader).
5. Return the form with your paid receipt(s) or written estimate(s) to Student Financial Services.
