UCSF School of Pharmacy

Bryan McGee, PharmD, Class of 2006

What are you doing now?

I am currently working as the pediatric pharmacy specialty resident at UC Davis Children's Hospital. After my residency I will most likely pursue a fellowship focused on international drug development and pediatrics (unless I get lucky and land a job as a professor at UCSF?).

How did the pathway help you get to where you are today?

The pathway made me into a more independent thinker and allowed me to pursue my personal interests as they related to the field of pharmacy. The flexibility of the pathway enabled me to apply for the Fulbright Program and live in Uganda for 6 months. My pathway project involved drug interaction research in children with malaria and HIV.

Participating in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Pathway solidified my interest in pharmacy related research, strengthened my commitment to international health, and provided me with a very unique cultural and academic experience.

As a pathway graduate, what do you want students considering the pathway to know?

Your basic training in pharmacy will always stay with you. The bonus of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Pathway is that it provides you with the "dare to be great" opportunity. It allows its students to be independent. What you do with that independence is up to you.

Being a graduate of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Pathway continues to open new doors, shape new ideas, and present hidden opportunities that I never thought would be available to a pharmacist. If given a choice, I'd do it the same way all over again.
