What Can You Achieve in Health Policy

Career Paths

There are many successful paths for PharmD students interested in pursuing a career in fields such as outcomes research, management, drug development, regulatory affairs and health policy, such as:

  • Regulatory affairs in government (United States FDA) or industry (Pharma and Biotech) setting
  • Outcomes researcher in a managed care organization or industry environment
  • Formulary management
  • Clinical development in industry
  • Academic research and teaching.

Job Titles

Some of the job titles held by health policy and management leaders who are pharmacists with requisite health policy and management skill sets include:

  • Vice President, Worldwide Business Development for the OTC division of a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company
  • Vice President, Clinical Research, Vision and Oral Health division of a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company
  • Director of Global Regulatory Policy for a Fortune 500 Rx pharmaceutical company
  • Senior Vice President, Pharmacy for a major California Chain Drug Store
  • Director of Pharmacy affairs, Food and Drug Administration
  • Faculty member of a leading School of Pharmacy
  • Associate Dean of a leading School of Pharmacy
  • Director, Global Outcomes Research, Fortune 500 Rx pharmaceutical company
  • Director, Regulatory Affairs
  • Director, Formulary Management/Pharmacy Benefit in Managed Care Organizations.
