Pharmacists Clarify the Medicare Part D Fog

What is Medicare Part D?

Known officially as "Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage," Medicare Part D is the new voluntary prescription drug insurance for Americans with Medicare. These include people age 65 and older and people with disabilities.

Enrollees Challenged to Make the Right Decisions

Since the debut of Medicare Part D on January 1, 2006, those eligible have been challenged to evaluate plan options, identify the best plan, and enroll with confidence.

UCSF Faculty and Students Lead Education Efforts

Leading the way to clear the Medicare Part D fog are faculty members from UCSF's department of clinical pharmacy and UCSF School of Pharmacy doctor of pharmacy students. Together they have helped more than 2,000 California seniors sort out their Medicare Part D options. UCSF's drug experts and experts-in-training continue to focus their outreach on multi-cultural and low-income communities of seniors, which are among the most vulnerable and the most underserved.
