Meet BTS Alum Adam Mendelsohn

Adam Mendelsohn, PhD, is co-founder and CEO of Nano Precision Medical, Inc., an Emeryville-based startup company that is developing a rice-grain-sized subdermal implant that delivers medicine at constant rates over time. His company is pursuing a type-2 diabetes application as their lead program; it is meant to replace the need for frequent injections with a very small, long-term implant.

Desai keynotes BioEHSC 2017

Desai elected to the National Academy of Medicine

UCSF School of Pharmacy faculty member Tejal Desai, PhD, has been newly elected to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), formerly known as the Institute of Medicine (IOM).

NAM membership is considered one of the highest honors in health and medicine. Elected by current members, the membership recognizes individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care, and public health.

My research aims to improve the way we can “see” physiologic and metabolic activities in the body in real time, so that we can better understand normal physiology and clarify the underlying mechanisms of disease progression and response to therapy. To this end, I focus on developing novel strategies for obtaining and interpreting magnetic resonance data.

James Fraser, PhD

I am a biophysicist. My research is focused on discovering the macromolecular structure and dynamics of proteins—defining conformational states essential for function and understanding transitions between these states.

Tejal Desai, PhD

I am a bioengineer focusing on micro and nanofabrication techniques to create new devices for drug and cell delivery as well as biomaterials for cell and tissue regeneration. I also chair the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences.

I am a bioengineer working on medical device development to address clinical needs by leveraging my background in MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) along with advances in biomaterials, electronics, and nanotechnology to advance health world-wide.
