Step 2: Update your anti-virus software

Updating your anti-virus software is a required step in ensuring computer security.

Is your anti-virus software current?

If you just installed Sophos as instructed in Step 1, Sophos updates automatically. Skip to Step 3.

Open your anti-virus software program. Modern anti-virus programs will tell you very plainly if they are current. If you just bought new anti-virus software on CD-ROM or online and installed it, it is most likely not current.

Not Sure

If there's no easy way to tell if your anti-virus software is current, uninstall it, then return to Step 1: Get anti-virus software.

No

  1. Uninstall your anti-virus software.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Reinstall your anti-virus software.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Let your anti-virus software update automatically.
  6. Restart your computer.

If your anti-virus software is still not current, try the help options below.

Yes

Congratulations! Proceed to Step 3: Ensure that your computer is free of viruses.
